Design Process

The design process varies according to theme, platform, and indivual requirements but generally takes about eight to ten weeks.

  • First, reference material is gathered on the theme of choice.
  • After symbols are decided on, a number of black and white sketches are produced, to give a clear idea of the style of the artwork and how the symbols will look. This includes the game name/belly panel logo.
  • Following approval of the initial sketches, the symbols are rendered in colour, usually much larger than the actual size required. This means the artwork source files can also be used for print, if need be.
  • The next stage is animation of the substitute and scatter, or the most prominent symbols. When all animations are complete the reel strip background is decided on.
  • With the symbol animations complete and the reel strips decided on, the reel background is illustrated, including a feature background if necessary, and theming of the buttons and meters, and all other elements required for the reelscreen interface.
  • The next step is feature animations, these of course vary depending on game design.
  • With the animations complete, the paytable and rules screens are laid out. Panels are prepared for print, or for screen. The Belly panel and game name logo is rendered in colour.
